Scott Brown
CEO, New Energy Capital

Scott Brown is the founder and CEO of New Energy Capital, an investment company which has successfully invested in biofuels, renewable power generation, and on-site cogeneration. From 1999-2005, Mr. Brown was a member of the National Advisory Council of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Mr. Brown has served on the Boards of Directors of Ze-Gen, Next Step Living, and STR, Inc., as well as numerous project company boards.

 

 

 

Mark Farber, Photon Consulting
Former CEO, Evergreen Solar

Mark Farber currently provides strategy consulting and market research services to the global solar power sector. A founder of Evergreen Solar, a manufacturer of crystalline silicon solar power products, he was President and CEO for almost a decade. He was chairman of the Solar Alliance and a board member of the Solar Energy Industries Association. Previously, Mr. Farber worked at Mobil Solar Energy Corporation, the solar division of Mobil Corporation, where he was responsible for marketing, sales, and corporate partnering activities and was a consultant at Temple, Barker and Sloane, where he advised utilities, manufacturers, and governmental agencies on energy, economic, business and policy issues. Mr. Farber has a BS in industrial engineering and operations research from Cornell University and a MS in management from M.I.T.’s Sloan School.

 

 

 

Dennis Kanin
Principal, New Boston Ventures

Dennis Kanin is a principal of New Boston Ventures, a real estate development company. He has served as a partner and counsel at Foley Hoag until recently. In 1991-92, he was National Campaign Manager for the presidential campaign of former U.S. Senator Paul E. Tsongas. From 1975-85, Kanin served as Tsongas’ Chief of Staff in the U.S. Congress. Kanin was a member of the National Democratic Party Commission on Platform Accountability and Charter Commission. He served as President of the Board of Trustees of The Roxbury Latin School, two chair positions of the Anti-Defamation League, Vice President of the Board of the Epiphany School, Co-Chair of Children’s Hospital’s Advocacy Campaign Advisory Group, and Advisory Board Member of the Mass. League of Environmental Voters. Dennis is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School.

 

 

 

Jack Kutner
COO, Big Belly Solar

Jack Kutner is Chief Operating Officer at Big Belly Solar, an expansion stage company that manufactures solar-powered trash compactors that deliver enterprise solutions to reduce collection costs and carbon emissions from public space trash collection. Mr. Kutner is an experienced entrepreneur, investor, and private business owner specializing in companies that are mission-based with an environmental agenda. Mr. Kutner is formerly the President & CEO of First Data Investor Services Corp., a $380 mm revenue, 3,500 person organization, and held various positions with Merrill Lynch and American Express. He holds a BS from SUNY Albany.

 

 

 

Jim Lang, Former COO, CERA
private investory

Jim Lang was the President and Chief Operating Officer of Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA), the recognized leader in energy research. Prior to CERA, he was President and COO of Strategic Decisions Group (SDG), where he founded the firm's Boston and Houston offices, and led SDG’s energy practice. He is experienced in energy, life sciences, high tech, and manufacturing. Jim actively invests in healthcare, energy, and business services. He has also held planning and engineering positions at Analog Devices, Data General Corporation, and AT&T. Mr. Lang holds a BS summa cum laude in electrical and computer engineering from the University of New Hampshire and an MBA with Distinction from the Tuck School of Business (Dartmouth).

 

 

 

Joanna Lau
CEO, Lau Technologies

Joanna Lau is Founder and CEO of LAU Technologies, a management consulting and investment entity located in Concord, MA. Formed in 1990, Joanna grew LAU Technologies into three business units (Lau Defense System, Viisage Technology, and Lau Security System) -- providing system inte- gration, development and delivery of high-end electronic systems for military applications; secure identification and surveillance systems. In 1995, she won the National Entrepreneur of the Year Award sponsored by INC and Ernst & Young LLP. Joanna has a BS of Computer Sciences and Applied Math from SUNY of Stony Brook, MS of Computer Sciences from Old Dominion University, MBA from Boston University and Honorary Doctorates from Bryant, Bentley and Suffolk universities.

 

 

 

Herb Magid, Managing Partner,
Energy Investors Fund

Herbert Magid is a Managing Partner of Energy Investors Funds (EIF) and a member of its Executive and Investment Committees. Mr. Magid was one of the original founders of EIF and part of the senior management team since 1987, responsible for the overall investment, asset management, strategic planning, and operations of the Firm and the funds it manages. He has over 30 years of experience in the financing, development, and operations of power assets in the energy industry. Previously, Mr. Magid was a Senior Investment Officer of John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, and a Licensing Engineer for the construction of electric power plants with United Engineers & Constructors. He received an M.B.A. from Cornell University and a B.A. from Colby College.

 

 

 

Mitch Tyson
CEO, Advanced Electron Beams

Mitch Tyson is CEO and Director of Advanced Electron Beams. AEB supplies compact electron beam emitters that significantly reduce energy consumption, emissions, and manufacturing costs in a broad range of industries. He has been a corporate consultant, lecturer, CEO of PRI Automation, and science advisor and assistant for energy to U.S. Senator Paul Tsongas. Mr. Tyson co-founded the New England Clean Energy Council and is Executive Committee member of the John Adams Innovation Institute, member of Progressive Business Leaders Network and Photronics, Inc. boards. Mitch is a Mass High Tech Journal All-Star for leadership in the clean energy sector. He has a B.S. in Physics and M.S. degrees in Nuclear Engineering and Political Science, all from the MIT.
